Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam is stable at the moment and doctors in Chennai are closely monitoring his health with the help of international experts.

The latest statement from MGM Healthcare Hospital reveals that veteran singer SP Balasubrahmanyam is stable and continues to remain on ventilator and ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) support. On August 5, singer SP Balasubrahmanyam released a video stating that he tested positive for the novel coronavirus. He had breathing trouble and has been on life support since August 13.
According to the hospital health bulletin on August 22, SP Balasubrahmanyam’s health is stable and is being monitored by multidisciplinary clinical team. “Thiru SP Balasubrahmanyam who had been admitted at MGM Healthcare due to COVID-19 continues to be on ventilator and ECMO support in Intensive Care Unit. His current clinical condition is stable and he continues to be closely monitored by our multidisciplinary clinical team,” the statement read.
It also said, “MGM Healthcare’s multidisciplinary team consists of specialists from internal medicine, critical care, pulmonology, infectious diseases and ECMO care. Our multidisciplinary team is actively collaborating with international experts from reputed centers in the US and UK that have witnessed large volumes of COVID-19 patients requiring ECMO support. The international experts concur with the clinical care that is being provided by our expert medical team to Thiru SP Balasubrahmanyam.”
On August 20, SP Charan, son of SP Balasubrahmanyam, released a video thanking film industry for organising as mass prayer meet for his father. Ilaiyaraaja, Saroja Devi, Bharathiraja, Sarathkumar, Sathyaraj were some of the celebrities who participated in the virtual prayer meet.
Last week, there are speculations that SP Balasubrahmanyam contracted the virus after attending a TV show for a Telugu channel. There are also reports that playback singer Malavika attended the show despite knowing that she was Covid-19 positive. However, yesterday Malavika dismissed it as rumours.
